CPU temp too high?

Looking at Speedfan the idle temp of my AMD Phenom II X4 955 black edition CPU sits around 34 C and running Prime95 right now it's at 100% load and sitting at 58 C. This seems a bit too high. The CPU is stock and not overclocked. What do you guys think. Are my temps too high?

eh, it seems high for stock clocks yet somewhat normal for stock heatsink fan. i'd maybe try either reapplying the thermal paste or get new and better thermal paste, maybe something like arctic silver 5 (or whatever number they're on now).

Don't have anymore thermal paste. It was already applied to the heatsink when I installed it. I'll look into some arctic silver 5. Any more suggestions?

make sure you have adequate airflow in the case, and nothing is rats nesty, wiring wise

oops yeah, forgot to mention airflow and dust on the heatsink :P sorry about that :o

Well I just built the machine two days ago so dust isn't an issue. I did some basic cable management but would more make a noticeable difference? I have an Antec Nine Hundred case with the fans all set on high so I think there is good airflow. Anyway to check my cases internal temperature?

only thing i can suggest, is feeling at exhaust ports for 'warm air' kicking out, that would be a good sign that stuff is working with your 900, but cable management might have fixed that already. im not even certain the air coming out will be warm to the touch in it unless its a really dense heat spot in the case. you could also try to undervolt the cpu if you are willing, and arent overclocking.

Would it be necessary to undervolt it? Is running at 58 C going to do any harm?
