CPU Temp

I was gonna ask if my current temperatures are good but instead I'll ask at what temps shouldnt be at?

I've got Q9550 and hits 65C while playing Crysis.
And I am told that this temp is within normal operating conditions.

Okay, a couple of thoughts on this.
  • Do you use Cool N' Quiet? Since this steps down the processor frequency during idle, this can make a big difference in temperatures.
  • Do you have the Brisbane core? Brisbane's have a reputation for often giving false temperature readings.

I have Cool N quiet disabled, I read somewhere to disable for better perforamance thats why I set it off and yes it is the Brisbane core.

I was also thinking of getting a new heatsink for it

Sorry to steal the thread, but I didn't want to open a new one. My computer is running at 65c. (pretty much idle) Is that really bad? I think it's oc to 3.15. Not sure if that's the right way to put it.

CNQ shouldn't hurt performance (unless you overclock, I suppose). It is made to throttle the CPU up to full speed whenever it is needed. And a new heatsink will probably help if you are using the stock one.

Yeh Im using the heatsink from my Athlon LE 1600 :o

I'm not sure what the specs are for your 6600, but 65c at idle seems very high. You might want to consider decreasing that overclock. Do you have any stability issues?

If I was seeing idle temps of 65c, I would overclock less (by a lot) or invest in a good cooler. Idle at 65c isn't normal, and while it may run stable for the most part, it'll probably wear down your CPU faster in the long run.

I have my Q6600 overclocked to 3 GHZ, and at 100% cpu load on all four processors the highest any single core achieved was 69 degrees after one hour of testing. Idle temperatures were low to mid fifties. I'd worry if you were idling at 65 like everyone else said, but it won't cause any short term damage.
