CPU temp

Whats the max temp my CPU should reach before it starts being unstable or starts getting damaged?
it should shutdown automatically. But if yours is a prescott, i would say that it shouldnt get any hotter than 60-65c

mine is 'Northwood'

OMFG

WHATS THIS???

It depends on how well your hardware performs, and the specific cpu. That temp is fine, but make sure you watch it closely.

try to keep it under 50C if you can
60-65 would be more dangerous temps...
if you're getting above 50C i'd suggest a different heatsink.
the only way that should really happen is if you overvolted with stock cooling though.

if you have an asus motherboard, there is driver that comes with the mobo, called probe,

it tells you the speed of all the fans, and the temperatures of various places

i didnt mean thats an ok temp, i just meant that you should start worrying if it gets around 60C.

Our Celeron D (based off of prescott), runs around 55-60C idle.

My CPU is 24C right now, which means I'll be overclocking soon, I'm worried about my GPU which says PC Wizard 2006 says its 56C and SpeedFan says its 63C, I think its a wrong reading, is there a program by nVidia that measures temperature?
