CPU Temperatue - E6850

Hi all,

Well it's been a good 5 years since I've built my computer from scratch, see signature, and it's served me well. It has come to my attention that is has run quite hot, 60-70C on a small load of <20% or so. I haven't really seen it go far over 70C, it's pretty much always in the 60s. I'm using RealTemp 3.70 to check the temperature, by the way. Now I do clean my computer from time to time, using compressed air and blowing the dust out, cleaning the dust filter, etc. Although I have never really taken off the CPU heatsink and cleaned it, from what I can tell it's dusty but compressed air doesn't really move the dust out of the heatsink.

Comments appreciated. :)

I'd definitely remove the heatsink and fan and reapply thermal paste. I'd recommend Arctic silver 5. Removed the old paste from the heatsink and CPU with coffee filters and isopropyl alcohol. Don't put too much on, just a thin layer.

Perhaps one of the posts on the heatsink let up. Make sure all 4 are secured tightly, but with that said I agree with claptonman a total removal and reapply of thermal compound is a good idea if it's been that long.
