What is the most accurate CPU temperature reading software?

A thermometer in your system.

If you mean software, there is no software that will be 100% acurate all of the time, but tehre are many out there than can do it. Everest is what I use to see temps of components, thermometer for ambient

I like core temp. It's the only one I've used - so I can't say to it's accuracy though .

My core temp is giving me false reading on my Phenom II 955. Core temp's temperature differs a lot from BIO's temperature. :X I'm forced to buy a new heatsink just to be safe now. My phenom II 955 went up to 80 degree C playing TF2 according to core temp's newest version.

speedfan said my 550BE was running at 79C idle, so i downloaded AMD Overdrive to check my temps, and speedfan was out by a good 40C.

if you have an AMD processor download AMD overdrive. i would think of it to be the best because it is made by the actual cpu company.

Don't forget SpeedFan.

Speedfan is somewhat outdated imo, the tjmax is still incorrect for 45nm core 2 based processors as well as the entire i5/i7 lineup.

Hm! I've been using SpeedFan for years out of habit, and I used to be able to (but no longer) control my fan speeds with it.

I didn't know that CoreTemp could also have temp offsets to compensate for Athlon 64 X2 Brisbane-core faulty temp sensors, AND a system tray display. A very pleasant surprise.

Jamin, thank you. I'll be trying out CoreTemp! Turns out CoreTemp has a smaller memory footprint (±2.4MB) than SpeedFan (±17MB), too.

I like to put the core temp / usage display on my 2nd monitor just below a TV window when I'm gaming or other tasks. Lets me see how much CPU usage I'm getting and temps for new or old games.

Turns out I like CoreTemp a lot. The auto-shutdown feature will come in handy in summer when I'm folding! :good:
