cpu temperature

i have downloaded speedfan and 1 or 2 other temperature monitors but none of them can find the temperature of anything else but my hard drives. its probably because of my stupid dell mobo but has anyone else used a dell and found a program that can find temperatures of the mobo and cpu?

thanks

You are probably right, your mobo is a cheapo so therefore it doesnt have the temp. sensors.

Alot of manufactured computers come with "generic" motherboards that lack features like temp sensors. Not many people who own Dells even know that the CPU gets hot, so it'd be pointless to include them.

You can but temp probes and install them possibly, but it might be a waste unless you're having overheating issues.

exactly but even if my mobo is crap shuldnt my cpu be able to read its temp or does that have to be on the mobo.

Has to be on motherboard. Usually the sensor is right inside the socket below the CPU, or very close to the socket on cheaper boards.

A more accurate reading is with a probe, you can get VERY thin ones that you can work inside the CPU pins. You work it inbetween the pins to the core of the CPU, then drop in the CPU. It will give you very accurate readings.

could u possibly give me hte link to probes that i could buy? are htey generally cheap? and where do i connect the probes?

Hmm..well i cant find any now.

closest thing i came up with is http://www.ussensor.com/prod_therm_prob_mic.html

Hopefully someone els here can post up a store that sells probes known to work with computers. I would imagine the above would work but i'm not sure how they connect to the computer.

Why do you need a probe? Unless you are having overheating problems, monitoring your temps really isn't that big of a deal. Save the money and get a motherboard with better features, that will be more worthwhile.

i dont really need it but i was just simply wondering. i am probably gonna save up for a new mobo and amd processor.

however.. the external fan should be a bigger fan as the one inside the case.
this wouls five you a air compression between the 2 Fans. ( like in a Jet engine) and the performance would increase.
All new processors use a thermal diode that has the main function of tripping the thermal control circuit which reduces the duty cycle when it gets too hot. Some motherboards/BIOS (such as those from Dell) don't access the thermal diode information. The case temperature is completely dependant on the motherboard.

You can get professional grade sensors and equipment at www.lakeshore.com but you'd be much better off just buying a new motherboard as 4W4K3 said. You can also buy computer temp sensors, but I wouldn't put them any closer than the bottom of the heat sink that is not in contact with the CPU.
