Cpu temps

With a stock heat sink and fan on the Core 2 model there you are doing good. The P4 models under the same load would definitely be running warmer by a long shot. But keep a good eye on them anyways. Eventually you may want to look into a better 3rd party hsf.

oh thats good news for me thanx

I believe she meant 50-60C load. Even then, you are pretty good. The only reason to get a better heatsink is if you are going to overclock, or the fan on the stock heatsink is too loud for your preferences.

On the recent build here the board ran higher then the cpu. I would have pushed the 60C mark easily with the loads even without ocing the Atholon 3500+ in use. The C2 models should be seeing lower temps due to not drawing the power levels like the older P4s did while still providing the output. The old P4s were seeing 85C on average loads with stock HSFs!

Does that mean 85C is acceptable?

You know the answer to that one already! That will kill a good number of cpu now out like Core 2s as well as AMD models. But that was one problem mainly seen when companies simply have someone set them up with stock equipment. They don't invest in 3rd party cpu coolers and things like water cooling and air conditioned cases. For them it's a business expense. If a system blows they write that off or simply have a tech service it. Game designers on the other hand will see strictly high end custom builds.

oh i don't overclock cpus anyways and I don't really even listen to the noise my computer makes when gaming

Between 46C and the mid 50s with a good load and stock cooling with no ocing is about the average temps to expect. Even if you don't plan on ocing some of the games with high details and especially multimedia playback with screensavers can really see temps climb at times. A full load only seeing 48C with a stock hsf setup is on the favored side.
