CPU throttling?

I was rendering with Mental Ray, full load, and noticed that I had left Speedfan running and I could see the temps while rendering. The strange thing is that the temps only went up to 44ºC, when it's around 40-42ºC idle (depends on ambient temperature). The temps should have gone higher since I use the stock HSF, which is surprisingly good for a stock HSF, if the CPU were to operate at the overclocked clock speeds. Could my CPU be throttling? Cause if it is, I'm gonna be a bit pissed. :P

as far as im aware the athlon XP range does not throttle in any way at all... all you'll get (if your motherboard supports it) is a cut off point where your system will just shut down

I suspect thats a faulty sensor reading...or you were instantly teleported to Siberia while rendering. Most AthlonXPs go up to around 60 when fully loaded

That's good to know.

Damn, I have a good cooling set up. :P
Right now my temps are:
CPU 36ºC
GPU 34ºC
HDD 19ºC
SYS 26ºC

mrjack .. how do u mange to keep the temp low ? mind telling what cooling u're using ?

Sure, I have 7 fans out of which 6 are constantly on, when to computer is on of course.

2 80mm fans in the PSU, are blowing out hot air, 1 is on all the time the other one is there incase it gets hot inside the PSU.

2 120mm fans blowing cold air into the case, 1 towards the GPU and 1 towards the CPU.

1 120mm fan blows away hot air from the case, though the primary goal is to cool down the HDD. Which it does nicely, 9-7ºC drop in temperature when compared to having no fan near the HDD.

1 fan on the GPU, don't know the specs of it though.

1 60-80mm CPU fan with heatsink, don't know exactly the specs of it.

I'll make a simplistic 3D model of the case and fans to give you a better idea about what it looks like. Might make an animation were the camera moves around. I'll post it here, when I'm ready.

EDIT:

Modeling and animation is done, only thing left is rendering. Might take a while. :P

EDIT#2:

Just rendered all of the 195 frames... but then I noticed I had set it to render with perspective instead of camera1. I have to render everything again. :P

Get speedswitchXP. I beleive the Mobile XP can throttle, so perhaps some of the later ones can? Eh, whatever, this program will lock your processor at this highest clock if you just set it to Max Performace(on AC, of course) Great little program for laptops and AMD processors. And if anyone's wondering, this does work on desktops using Athlon 64s ;)
