CPU Time

That price for the E8400 is amazing, go for it! ;)

Also, about the OCZ Vendetta; there's several positive reviews for it of E8400 overclocked to 3.6-4GHZ staying cool with this cooler.

If you think that you need/want to reseat the cooler due to the 4 pins being loose or whatever, then I guess you could try a different cooler. Anything from Zalman 9500/9700, Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro, Tuniq Tower, Thermalright Ultra 120, or Xigmatek is a good cooler. The Zalman 9500 or the Freezer 7 Pro are the ones that I think would give you the smallest difference from the Vendetta though.

Hmm, I've done some more research, and it seems people are choosing/recommending the OCZ Vendetta for the E8400.

I'll give it a try.

I was talking to Cleric7x9, and he said that I should change my FSB to 400, which would put the CPU at 3.6, and match my Ram.
Then, I should run Orthos Stress Test for awhile, but I'm not sure what to do if it crashes, what would I change?

Thanks.

If it doesn't boot at 400FSB, just keep lowering it say by 10's until you can boot. Then run a stress test and if it crashes, lower the FSB again. Keep lowering until you find a stable overclock. THEN from there, if you want to go further, start increasing the FSB again, in small steps, bumping the CPU voltage one notch at a time everytime the computer doesn't boot. Stress test, rinse and repeat ;)

It's relatively easy, you just need patience. Just watch out for your temps (55-60C max under load I'd say) and play around with the FSB until you get a stable overclock that you're happy with.

:)

Awesome, thanks Omar!

I'll probably attempt the overclock this weekend, or later this week.

Or I may change the FSB to 400, that would give me a 3.6 clock, right? And I shouldn't have to change anything else, like the voltage?

I'm going to the store in a bit to pick the CPU up.

Thanks again.

Derek, let me ask you this;

Is your current processor cooling unit just too small? Do you lie awake in bed at night wishing your HSF would just double or triple in size? Well, fret no more you dimensionally challenged individual, I bring you a new hope with the mammoth Tuniq Tower 120.

:P

or instead go for the better looking Asus Triton 78 (or 79, wich are basicly the same except a different color) :P

Still stock, I know, but...

I left it alone for a while longer and it didn't get much hotter, maybe 1 or 2c more.

I ran an hour and a half of Orthos, when I first got my CPU to 4.0GHz a few weeks ago, and as soon as I stopped it, I booted up Crysis Wars, and it restarted. Earlier today, once I got the WC kit installed, I overclocked the CPU to 4.05GHz, played CW, and it restarted, took out one of my GTs, and was able to play it on everything maxed, with a bit of lag, but still playable.

You should try to get higher than 4.05GHz with your current PSU (just with one 800GT) Then if you can get higher, then you'll be sure that your PSU is the problem.. But I guess either way you're good.
