cpu too hot

back to 61c again i guess its time to stop flogging a dead horse
thanks everyone

No, there's gotta be a solution! ;)

Have you tried clearing your motherboard's CMOS memory? To do this, you have to unplug the computer, take out the battery on the motherboard for a minute or so, and put it in again. This would clear any BIOS settings that might be affecting the CPU.

Also, here's a thread from another forum that I found:
http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1560868
Maybe your temps in CoreTemp or RealTemp (two good programs IIRC) will be better than the ones in your BIOS?

I have a feeling that since the cooler is the pin type, not the AMD clamp type. He just doesnt have the pins snapped in place good.

i put a brand new cmos battery into it when i put it together i even used cpuid to get temps and saw 61 and 55 degrees on the cores. i'll have to find somewhere cheaper than our local comp shop and let them have a look not paying £50 just to walk in the door and £40 per hour labour+parts.

Don't give up yet! Computer shops charge a crap load of $$$$ for doing nothing. If we can't figure it out, then chances are they can't figure it out either. Have you tried running CoreDamage? If your temps don't rise much, then maybe you just have a sticky/bad temperature sensor. If that's the case, then there's also a temperature sensor testing feature in Realtemp:
http://www.techpowerup.com/realtemp/
In order to use the sensor checker, you also need to download Prime95:

Also, keep in mind that if none of our solutions so far work for you, there are still more things we can try. ;)

With all the work you have put in trying to get this Heatsink working on the processor. I'd say ditch it and get a nice Heatsink that works good with the processor. It sounds like it is the clamps that suck and won't let the Heatsink sit on the processor well enough.

(lol nice enough timing for you spy :P)

downloaded both progs it says cpu not supported

Now that's odd. I think we're getting somewhere. Download CPUz and see what it says about your CPU. You can do a validation in the program, which will send your system info online so that we can check it out:
http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html

Also, as a note, if all else fails you can always do what HSV_Man said and replace your heatsink. There could always be some weird problem with it; maybe one of the heatpipes got punctured somehow. Weird crap happens with computers. ;)

posted to room 1 cpc test if thats any help to you

I'm not quite sure what you mean by where you uploaded the specs. Usually when you do validation, you just have to share the URL.

Thanks for the link! Everything looks fine. You might just want to try getting a new heatsink at this point. You can find great reviews for heatsinks at www.frostytech.com.

Your temps aren't actually that bad, but it would look as though they could still be better. The temps on my Core 2 Quad media center with a Scythe Shuriken aren't actually that much better than yours. I get up to 80c after a few minutes of extreme load as well, although I think I just have a hot chip. You might too, although my CPU is supposed to output a good 30 watts less heat than yours, so mine should run a lot cooler than yours, but it doesn't. You're not in that bad of a scenario, but there's still room for a bit of improvement. I feel for ya, though. ;)

thankyou any recomendations? or just replace existing

Well, I've never owned an AM2/AM3 CPU, although I know that the Cooler Master Hyper TX3 is a nice heatsink for cheap. If you want to spend a bit more, the Cooler Mater Hyper 212 is also very good.

yeah, the 212 is supposedly one of the best coolers for the price, as in it will give the best performance for the money.
