when i play simple games like the sims not the sims 2 the cpu usage goes up to 100percent and lags real bad this never happens when i play unreal tournament 2004 also on the boxof the sims game it says 450 mhz or more. if it only need that much how come it lags on my computer.
 
Look at othere things like memory usage. Just because CPU usage is 100% doesn't mean it should lag...my CPU is at 100% 24/7. Go into task manager and see what programs are running and see what you don't need. Make sure you know what it is before you terminate it.
 
There are often programs running in the backround that hog system resources...press CTRL+ALT+DEL and see how many processes you have running...see what's using CPU processes (under CPU tab) and what's using memory (Mem Usage), all under the "Processes" tab. I'm assuming you're using WinXP.
 
When I'm playing video games my CPU runs at 100%, it doesn't lag though. If you're only lagging in games and the system seems to run fine otherwise it might be your graphics card holding you back in graphic intense programs. Also most games will recommend more then 256MB of RAM. If you bought a gig of ram and a better video card your gaming performance might increase.

It looks like that your graphics card and ram are holding back your performance. Most games need 512 mb to run properly, and a graphics card with 128 mb gddr ram. You may want to upgrade. Also try lowering the settings. This can help you by using less resouces.
