Hi

Everytime i start my computer now i get a few svchost.exe files running and 1 of them is always on 100% CPU usage. my computer freezes and needs restart. I just ended the process and luckily i can log on here.

Can anyone help solve or explain what is happening.

thanks

svchost.exe is something to do with Nortan, I think, It's either that or it's a system process.

Does it freeze when you end it or when it's running.
Run a virus scan and see what it comes up with.

svchost.exe is nothing to do with Norton, it is a system process

It is normal to have lots of copies running,
If you find that they are crashing the system it likely 1 of 2 things is happening:
You have a virus (not the most likely)
You have some messed up dll that is calling a corrupt/bad/failing/mess up process
If you boot into safe mode doe everything work ok?

I wasn't too sure, but thanks for clearing it up :)

I would try a virus scan and then defragg and run all the usual scans / tests.

How do i boot in safe mode?

I have 4 copies of the process. 2 are networked and 2 are system. I have to as soon as the computer starts "end the process" that is chewing up the CPU which is a system one (it uses over 100,000k memory @100CPU and keeps rising in memory usage till computer crashes). if i dont do it straight once desktop is available away i cant do anything on the computer.

As i cant do anything while it runs it is also impossible to obtain a hijack this log. AVG anti virus, AVG anti spyware and AVG virus removal tool found nothing. Should i run these in safe mode.

once i end the process, the computer is running perfect....faster than it has been for months.

In safe mode everything is running and working OK. The problem does not occur. What do I need to do to fix this problem in normal startup.

"You have some messed up dll that is calling a corrupt/bad/failing/mess up process" It is really bugging me having to end this task everytime i start computer.

Also scanned in safe mode and all clear too, so its not a virus.

lol is it bad that my crappy computer has six copies of that running? all taking up diff amounts of ram, up to 22mb's, and all from diff places. system, network service, local network, those three... so the problem could be dll? i HAVE had problems with that before, but they semed to just clear themselves up lol... now im starting to think my computer is still having problems, but now its compensating by making these processes run

go to... uniblue.com they list all the processes running on your puter.. good and bad they have a scanner to D/L

i will try but i have to end the process otherwise my computer freezes.
i also noticed when i end this process my sound doesnt work and i cant open the volume control....."there are no active mixer devices available"

OK, i did a little more searching and found this out:

By disabling microsoft auto update it fixes the prob (supposably microsoft auto update chews it up and its an issue).....i have done this and restarted and no more problems. But this hasnt fixed the problem it has just put it aside. What do i do for updates? Will manually updating fix this problem so i can turn auto update back on?
