I wanna get my brother his firs PC, since he doesn't know pretty much anything about computers I don't wanna spend all my money, so I'll get him a simple PC to play simlpe games and surf the internet.
I was thinking of an Intel Celeron, will he ever manage to play DRIV3R for example on there?

FOR GAMES: Intel Celeron or AMD Sempron???

You can probably get a decent Sempron based system for about the same that a Celeron based would cost and the Sempron will perfrom better.
You can play most games on any system you just need to be realsitic in your video expectations.
 
A sempron would be a much better choice for a budget gaming pc. What else are you going to be using in the system?
 
oh god... oh god... DO NOT GET A CELERON, IMO at least. It's like a really beat down P4 that cant multitask either. I have a CD 2.8 and it preforms just as crappy as my old 1200mhz duron, only rwason i didnt; switch bacl was i sold it alreayd...I'm putting in my semperon on thurday and can let you know the inprovmens..its a 3100+....

In all fairness, it is a beat down P4. But a Sempron is essentially a beat down Athlon. The Athlon 64 2800+ and the Sempron 3100+ are nearly identical, the Sempron is down 256KB of cache though
 
When i got it i expected it to be beat down, but not THAT beat down, my friend has a P43.2ghz and it preforms at least twice as good, and we have almost identical hardware.
 
this is my sempron, see they're not all that bad and my processor only cost me like 74 buks(wothout heatssink) well the heatsink for a sempron is like 11$

i think your wrong.. b4 i had my smithfield i had a celeron D 2.8ghrz because wheni built this system i didnt have the money for the smithfield... and guess what i played css, and multiasked GR8 i could alt tab between counterstrike source, and 10 other programs such as, msn, browsers, photoshop, etc with ease....just my o2....( speaking of wich, i played counter strike source at full settin with CD 2.8ghrz getting 40-50fps)

my 920 presler should be ariving today... in the dresser goes the smithfield

i think Celeron's suck! My family PC has a Celeron D 2.4Ghz, and i could barely play halo on lowest settings @ 800x600, and i had a 9600xt video card. Deffinetly get a Sempron.
 
Why would you want to play Halo :P

A Celeron should play halo fine, I know the lab computers at school can play it on medium just fine (GeForce4 MX440 & 2.4GHz Northwood, same cache as Celeron D, only difference is the pipeline length)
