my Dell's got a Slot 1 CPU, right now it's getting clocked at 664MHZ, not overclocked, could i maybe boost this 2 800-933, maybe 1GHZ? thanks :) .

It would take big oc to get upto 1ghz
You cannot overclock a Dell.
not true, you cant do it in the standard bios on the new board, but since his board is so old there maybe jumper options available

Maybe but my family has been using dell for a long long time. Since they were first coming out. And i know they havent been able to overclock.

It could be different.

well you can overclock any dell if you willing to hack the bios yourself.

And the old boards still had jumper setting on, fact. But since you were <10 years old at the time you may not have know about them :D jk

ooooooooo i see, we were all under the impression that by boost you meant overclock upto 1ghz

you can pick up a Pentium III 533Mhz~1.13GHz (Coppermine core):) it should work fine

:) that would be a much better processor :)

lol
how much ram does your system have? that might make a good upgrade as well, it being an older system and everything.

I'm sorry, but I thought that the BIOS was the basic of basics? How would you even go about doing this? My friend would like to put in a new motherboard into his dell XPS (if that is even possible, what with all Dell's green "safety latches" everywhere) because he cannot tinker with anything in the BIOS besides the color of his front fan :o

yes!!!, im doo damn happy right now lol, u dont even know :D .

my computer has 384MB, maxs at 512, i happy at 384, but thinking about maxing it out, the fastest CPU i found, so far was 1GHZ, but they do have 1.13GHZ? also, when you say "Coppermine core", does that mean the pins have 2 be Copper? or...

could it just be any type of Slot 1 CPU? that looks like mine? or does it just have 2 be a Coppermine? i only found 1 on Ebay, anbd it's in Canada, and it's 600MHZ.

You can modify just about any BIOS if you've got the knowledge. I'm not sure what the best programmers use as far as software, but lookup "Merlin BIOS" on Google and you'll find a pretty popular BIOS modder named Merlin who wrote the BEST BIOS revisions for the NF7 series motherboards. They implemented features like CPC off which made a HUGE difference in FSB speed, advanced voltage options, etc.

really so i could oc my p3 500 mgz to 1 gig

If all your hardware was capable of taking that kind of overclock, sure. But chances are no amount of BIOS modding, voltage mods, cooling would get you a 200% performance increase. Everything has it's limit.
