Crappity Crap.

I have a a little problem. I currently have a MSI RS480M2 mobo running a 300 watt PSU. I want to put a 7900 gt into the PCI-E slot and obviously the PSU is not enough power to support the GPU. I found this Antec 500 Watt PSU that's only about 70 dollars and what I need know is if 500 watts would be too much power for the mobo. I contacted my computer makers techs and they said i should stay under 450 watts but this is also from the same people who told me I didn't have certain specs on my machine that just so happened to be printed on the box the comp came in, so I have a hard time trusting them...

A PSU will only use as much power as needed, so if you buy a 500w PSU and it only need 350w, only 350w will be used......if ya see what i mean. Nut in saying that, the wattage of the PSU isnt the most important thing. Do you have a link for the PSU so we can see if it is a strong one?
 
Yea, thats a strong PSU so is a good choice.

Seeing how anal I am about being able to connect to things I'm going to buy, of course I have a link.

A good enough PSU. 36A on the 12V rails combined shoud be plenty. One more thing, do not trust those guys. You could have a megawatt PSU and it would not be "too much for your motherboard." I say next time, ask us down here.

No. Actually no, no, no, no, no, no I don't trust those people at all. I almost believed them but then I remembered a tech of theirs had the nerve to tell me the FSB of 2k on my amd 64 3200+ was impossible, even though the box, store I bought it at and numerous other places I looked at said it had an FSB of 2k. So no. I don't trust them at all. And if you notice I've been riddling this place with questions as of late. Because you guys are awesome. :-)

Cool...but that guy was correct ;) There is no such thing as 2K FSB :-) However, it's a marketing stunt so not your dault at all. Does not matter though. Glad you like it here.

HyperTransport, Lightning Data Transport
Implemented on AMD K8 series processors, this is, for all intents and purposes a bidirectional FSB but is clocked significantly higher. The base clock for the HyperTransport is 200MHz and the multiplier's go up to five. Factor in the principle of DDR and you get a maximum net effective hypertransport clock of 1000MHz (2000DDR). Naturally, marketers will often write this as FSB1600 or FSB2000 however this is incorrect as the actual clock speed is still half of that (marketers forget that DDR only means "effective") and that HyperTransport and Front-Side-Bus are mutually exclusive. Intel platforms do not have support for HyperTransport.

the number is a common market twadle.
the 2000Mhz is the effective HTT (hyper transport) when factoring in DDR.

The actual HTT is 1000Mhz, note that HTT and FSB are not the same thing, in fact they are mutually exclusive, with no AMD chip past the K8 series (of which the 64 3200+ is a member) using FSB

And wow i did go. If i didn't enjoy my computer so I would take it upon myself to single handedly destroy emachines and everything it tries to be. Jerks. Quick question...I know 1538 is pretty terrible for a 3dmark06 score but is that atleast alright for a

Chaintek 6600 gt oc
Amd 64 3200+
1.5 gigs ram

Sorry to taint this mobo forum with 3Dmark06 questions but you seem to be about these parts if you don't mind shedding some light for me...and thank you for the help. I appreciate it...even though I would rather enjoy being able to believe that my fsb is still 2k. :-(
 
Oh wow jan you're in the czech republic? That's such a beautiful country. My brother and I spent a weekend in Praha. Simply beautiful.

yeah, Prague is great went there a few years ago, stayed in a youth hostel on the Strelecky Ostrov island... spent most nights in "the music club" brilliant place. Great food, architecture, culture, night life, women... *sigh*
