so yeah, I want to (if possible) give my crap of computer a little upgrade. I was thinking of probably buying an average video card(150-200$) and a 512 Mb RAM to bring it to 768MB RAM, and also buying a new hard drive. would this work or am I better off buying a new one?

Don't spend money on that, it isn't worth it. Save up for a while, then build a new computer. There is only so much you can do to a system like that to upgrade it to current standards. Pretty soon you will be basically buying a new computer with everything you have to replace.

That 2GHz Celeron processor will really cripple your gaming abilities, a $150 video card would be wasted. You'd be better off to save up some money, even something like the $500 gaming system in Computer Specs 101 would run circles around your system, even with the upgrades you're proposing.

if i were u i would just use the money to buy a new cpu and motherboard and ditch other things and see if you can use the same case then u dont have to buy one.

new cpu, video card, ram, sound card maybe even a new hardrive they are cheap nowdays a 250gb is less than 100 on newegg.
