Creating a network jukebox?

I have a computer down here (the one i'm typing this on), and it has a good amount of music on it. I have a second computer sitting around.

What I want to do is put the second computer upstairs (it's nothing special, it's my aunt's old one) and use it as a networked jukebox using my collection down here as it's source. How would i go about it?
 
You could Remote dektop connection if you have a netowrk which it will be on. It allows you to remotely control the entire computer from the 1st Desktop.?!?! (from the desktop perspective..) and control everything. Easy to work and install to us elocally. All you need is WINXP.. :) I knew you would laugh at that. Anyway you can use other remote connection programs like that.. I dont know whats out for linux though.
 
Also all you really have to do is set up the second PC with and OS such as Windows XP and network both computers. Wireless would work well for this. Also of course you'll want to hook up some killer speakers or perhaps hook it up to a stereo and get a nice small/inexpensive LCD screen. You'll then easily be able to play all your music with software of choice such as Windows media player 10, winamp, musicmatch etc. You can create your play lists on that machine but keep the music on the other.
 
Just realized you run Linux :P. Well there you go instal Linux and network the 2 PC's and Use software of choice.
 
I would go wireless as for the obvious reason you don't have to run a wire from point A to point B and wireless is pretty cheap now.

But is still not a completely perfected technology, seeing as setting up a WiFi network is still pretty painful sometimes.

You might be right here. But as for Windows XP it's made fairly painless but KittyKun would most likely be running a Linux network so painful it might be. Just wanted to mention that I have a 3 PC's networked here but only one so far is wireless but it was very painless indeed. All PCs function great withing the network.

When i had linux instaled i used samba, and then just shared a folder with my music in, the i was able to access it very easily over the network, and as for the wireless/wired issue i would go for Wired, as this will be easier to setup, although i am sure wireless wouldn't be too hard. It mainly depends on you knowledge and if you are prepared to run a cable from a>b

I second the samba server. It's basicly designed for this sort of scenario. I personally would have the jukebox box be the samba server with all the music on it. So the computer is dedicated towards storing the music and playing it over your system. If you want to copy or play music on your normal PC, then you can do that via network.

That setup minimizes network traffic as you will be primarily playing the songs through whatever that computer is hooked up to.

I would also look at cheap video cards with Svideo jacks (if your TV is new enough to have Svideo) so that you can switch your TV to display the computer image. I would also personally invest in a soundcard with remote or some other remote control. Done properly, you could basicly have a DVR and DVD player that houses all your mp3's (and movies if you so desire)
