Do you have to have internet to make a network?

This is why I ask. I have windows 7 ultimate on my desktop and want to use the media center through my xbox 360 to watch movies. Can I tie these 2 devices together through a network or any way without using the internet? Or am i trying to do something thats impossible?

Yes you can do that. No Internet necessary. Hopefully someone knowledgeable on the XBox can advise best method for that. PCs you can connect via crossover Ethernet cable or router.

Yeah man, it's quite simple. Go to Newegg, or Walmart, and buy a $40 router. That's what I did. You don't need internet to use Windows Media Center.

This is the router I purchased about 4 years ago for what you described. Still runs to this day.

Works great for what you're describing, and for what I did.

If you have your own network, just connect the Xbox and the PC to the network, and wallah, some tweaking on the computer and Xbox will do it. The Xbox was built with Windows Media Center for a reason lol it's so possible it's painfully easy.
