Creating a website

Okay, I want to create a website from scratch, I already know HTML and CSS. I want to build my website completely from those without a website building software, I am aware that it is harder (and maybe impossible these days) but it is what I want to do. I am aware of domains and all that other stuff, but I want to make this a simple website, and then expand it later if I want to. I don't know how to upload HTML of CSS files (or what programs the files are stored on) and I don't know where to build it on. May someone please help?

And to make this clear, I don't care about weather or not anyone sees my website, I don't care about domain names, I don't care about copyright or any of those other things. I just want a blank screen with a url that I can start building upon.

I'd spin up a CentOS VM with Apache. Then you can just access it locally for development.

If you just want to dick around check out Xampp. It's a local test environment.

Check out webhostingtalk.com for hosters. I heard good things from Stablehost. Also for the domain Namesilo is pretty good.

You upload files with a FTP client like WinSCP. The index page is what is loaded first.
