I was trying to find an average read throughput for the VelociRaptor as I know the Samsung Spinpoints outperform some of the VelociRaptors, but benchmarks for that particular drive are hard to come by. This article states that the maximum throughput of the WD1500HLFS is 126 Mb/s, which, according to this chart is below the 500 and the 1000 GB Spinpoints. I'd RAID 0 a pair of the 500 GB Spinpoints for a lot less money unless you can verify that the VelociRaptors are in fact a lot faster.
Or, for a little more you could get an SSD for your boot drive and a Spinpoint for your storage drive.

I do like the look of that Spinpoint. But how much performance would I gain having those 10000 rpms in a raid 0 vs the 7200 rpms?

What I'm saying is it appears that the Spinpoints would be faster - At least for read throughput, which is, IMO, the most important HDD spec. They would also cost substantially less, and provide a 1TB RAID 0 array compared to a 300 GB Array for the VelociRaptors.

good build, i don't wanna make any suggestions but just looking at a few parts its a powerful computer.

Thanks for the suggestion. After your post and a little research I switched to the samsung hdds. Just a few more checks to save up and I'll have me a new toy. Thanks again.

You might want to wait til August 29th and get an i7 950. That's the date scheduled for the price to be cut from $562 to $294.
