critique the following setup, please!

wat will this be used for and wat is your budget??

also you can get about the same performance out of a 7800gtx 256mb and its a lot cheaper than the x1800xt
and by your setup it seems this will be for gaming so the RAM you chose has a CAS of 3 and you want it to be 2 or 2.5 check Ram 101 for more info.
And the HD do you really need a raptor? a 16mb 7200rpm HD will do just fine and you'll get more space. check Hdd 101

yes, the system is primarily for gaming. budget is about $2000
 
well the raptors are good for gaming but if u can fit it into ur budget u might wanna get 2. 74gb of hard drive space isnt much.
 
I always so no on raptors but thats just me. I think a bigger drive is worth it than slightly higher load speeds.
Like Mr. Suave said you could get a better motherboard, that one is a very poor overclocker (unlike the new ASUS).
I'm not tryeng to be a fanboy, but the 7800GTX is always only 2 or 3 FPS from the XT, and its $150 cheaper.
RAM is OK... but for 1 Gb modules there are better options, try and look for PC4000 even if your not overclocking, because then you may be able to lower the timings even more for PC3200. If you're overclocking alot (which you may want to do with your CPU), look into 1 gigabyte of much faster RAM.
Processor is good, you could get the s939 opty 165 for $30 cheaper (if you can find it on monarchcomputer) and it comes with 1 Mb of cache. These are not officialy supported by enthusiast motherboards yet though, so if you ahve a preoblem, even if its unrelated to the fact your using an opty, the mobo company will not help you. But generaly it will work.
Then the monitors good, but your missing a PSU, case, and optical drive.

yeah, for the time being i'm thinking i can live with one, but as time goes on i'll probably get another one.

this is a complete system build, so i obviously still have to get other things, and i'm already close to being WAY over what i can afford...

overclocking is probably something i'm not going to do, so it's not a big deal.
