Hello, im looking to crossfire a saphire x1600pro 256mb(i have now i this machine) with a 512mb saphire x1600pro 512mb. I cant seem to find the 256mb version. Will this work?

I don't know if it will work or not, because I don't have experience with SLI/Crossfire, but I do know is that you need EXACT the same cards to build up a SLI/Crossfire.

From what I recall, it will work but with only 256Mb of VRAM. The 512 in the other card will be discarded pretty much.

Crossfire works differently from SLI, you don't need the exact same card and your X1600 PRO will work with a x1600XT as well and give similar performance to 2 x1600XT. And the memory from will just add together 256+512 if you gotten those 2 cards.

The memory won't add up. Each card is rendering a different part of the screen, so they both need to have all the reference textures loaded onto the memory, so in reality both cards have the exact same textures loaded onto their VRAM. One card cannot load different textures than the other, one they do not have access to each others memory, and two it would be very slow and complicated if they did, memory bandwidth is too small.

also I believe Crossfire scales the cards. What this means to two different GPU cores in crossfire, I don't know
