well its come to another upgrade (again)

i currently have the xfx hd4890 900mhz gpu 3900mhz ddr5 and im struggling to find this gpu at a decent price....

i got mine for £140 and the ones ive seen are close to £200 pfff

so i have seen another xfx hd4890 870mhz gpu 3900mhz ddr5 for £140

im just wondering would i be able to put these 2 cards together in crossfire?

at the end of the day its only 30mhz difference?

will one card downclock?

as long as they will play along nice together once i get them under water i'll push them until there on there knees, make them my 3dmark06 bitches :)

thanx

As long as it's the same chip, they should run together.

Maybe one will downclock itself, but regardless, you could, like you said, downclock one, or overclock the other.

100% sure they will work together 99% sure that the one card will run at 900 and the other 870. With my 4870x2 I can OC one core and down clock the other and they still work together so I don't see why 2 4890's wouldn't do the same thing.

Do you have an old Nvidia card laying around by chance? You could use the hack drivers and enable physx for an awesome Vantage score.

From my understanding they will work together but just clock to the slower gpu. So if you had a 750 and a 900 both would be at 750 is what I was told.

this is exactly what i wanted to hear!!

i dont have an old nvidia card either, even if i did i wouldnt have the slots to use it in, the 4890's are dual slot so they take up 4 slots leaving me with 1 pci slot that i could fit a cream cracker in lol

Id just overclock them both to (950/4040) like i have mine...should be fine.

what id like to know....does crossfire allow you to use all the ram on both cards? or will he still only be able to make use of 1gb on his one card?

once under liquid ill push past that, as long as my psu can handle it that is... i can see another psu being needed

not sure my 50amps on the 12volt rail will push these 2 cards
