CRT monitor refresh rate

well, my friend got a new monitor, and gave me the 17" CRT monitor he was using. im using it now in place of my 15" LCD. this monitor goes up to 1280x1024 resolution, but when its set there, the only option for refresh rate is 60hz. its said that a refresh rate this low causes eye strain, headaches etc...and i can sorta see that. is there something i should do about this, or just not use the monitor? -.- i dont feel like using this monitor at a lower resolution

That's probably the maximum refresh rate the monitor supports at that resolution...

I think there is an option that says something like "show all refresh rates even though the monitor cant display" or something like that. Most monitors go higher then what they say they can.

Be careful!

i found the option in my nvidia settings, and tried to set it higher at this resolution, wouldnt work =/ monitor said no.

so..is it really a bad idea to use a monitor at 60hz?

I can't live with anything under 85 hz. At 60 I notice flickering everywhere, at 75 I sort of see flickering in areas of little contrast, but 85 is perfect.

i really was noticing the flickering, and i had a bad headache today..once i stopped looking at that screen it went away. (the advil may have had something to do with also, but that weakens my argument =P)

anyway, i think screw it, and right now im back on my LCD >.>

1024x768 @ 75hz

You can try using the bigger moniter at 1024x768 also, it can prabally have a igher refresh rate that way. Personaly when i set my rate higher then 60mhz the screen gets very shaky, im not sure why.

I use my CRT at 1152*864, 75htz- its perfect. My parents dont like 1280*1024 ("its too small!") and my monitor would only do 60htz at that too.

yeah tried that too. would go up to 85 hz, but would make the display physically smaller, as in take up less of the monitor, and there would be more black space around the image. not even worth it IMO, i like the sharper picture on my LCD

Make sure your running the latest driver for the CRT, if the resolution and refreshrate support still wont improve then theres nothing you can do.

Stop giving people advice that can damage their hardware.

Your monitor doesnt have a refreshrate.

Simply adjust the CRT to fill the screen.
