crt or lcd

What kind of monitors are better for gaming CRT, or LCD. I have an LCD and it its pretty clear but when im gaming it seems like everything is darker, also it almost seems like its more laggy. If CRT is better why, or other way around?

LCD's have higher response times, which is most likely why it looks laggy for you. A good LCD would have < 8ms response. A CRT has 2ms-4ms response time.

i think CRT's are better for gaming.

generally speaking a crt is better for gaming, the main reason is better response times as geoff said. aslo, you dont have to worry about a native resolution with a crt.
also prices with crts are generally lower

however, i am tempted to get a lcd because they seem to offer a crisper still image and now with lower response times its very difficult to notice and ghosting with moving images.

BTW. your user name is very "emo"... if you dont know what that is it doesn't matter lol

hehe

Yeah a good CRT is advisable. However, if you have some cash to spare, a good sub-8 response time LCD monitor is what I would get. You will not notice any ghosting in that case. However to truly be a gaming LCD monitor, it should be able to handle 1600x1200 :)

Personally, I have a BenQ FP92G+ 19" LCD. I think that it is great for gaming. It is a little expensive, but i got it with a $60 mail in rebate. If you are low on space (which I am) and LCD is better, but a CRT is the best choice if you want faster response times.

I think it really depends on your budget.

If you have 300-400 dollars to spend, you can get a nice 19inch LCD.

If you are on a tighter budget then a CRT is better.

I prefer LCD, much sharper, cleaner picture.

same here LCD's are much sharper and arent as hard on the eyes and i think they do pretty good with gaming.

crts don't have response times?

edit: measured in nanoseconds, that is..

edit: < nanoseconds.. around .8-.9ms?

i like how LCD don't have the refresh blinking like CRTs do, i absolutely cant stand the refresh rates on CRTs unless its like 85 its just murder on my eyes, i have a recurring nightmare about a monitor stuck in 60 hertz refresh rate!! ahhhhh!!!!

Except for folks like myself whom would not use anything larger then 1280x1024 no matter the circumstance. I've always used that res even when I could push it higher.

Yeah I think it was not a correct statement from my side. I know in fact that many great gamers still prefer 1024 by 768. More than anything, the response rate should be at least 8ms to really make an LCD monitor suitable to consider for gaming purposes. I for one have a 25ms response rate LCD and have not seen any ghosting and stuff like that while playing games (Q4, UT2004, Doom 3, HL2...)
