well i have just bought Crucial 64GB 2.5" SATA-II Solid State Hard Drive for £151 about 2 mins ago...

not sure if it was the right thing or the wrong thing but im gonna create this thread so when it arrives ill be able to post its performance.

maybe they are as bad as people say or maybe not!!

ive always wanted to try the drive myself rather than wonder, fingers crossed it will be good :D

stuff is more expensive in other countries. probably taxes..... to help fund their universal healthcare or something

I have never had a problem with any thing from Crucial even though I have not worked with to many of Crucials products. Also I have never heard anything bad about Crucial from any one so I think you will be pretty happy with it

Sadly it's mainly to fund benefits (social security) but not only that the pound has a similar value to dirt now! Looks good though funky.

hope you have good luck with it. what are you planing to use it it, desktop or laptop? i am thinking about getting a 32gb for my lappy to run my OS, and store everything else on a secondary drive.

thanx... im looking forward to trying it out, its going in my desktop!

i wont wipe my 500gig just yet incase it does fail or is not what i want

well here is my update on this drive--!!!

its crap, i have bought what it seems as being one of the worst ssd drives out-even worse than the early ocz drives.

just so happens that i bought a slc (single level cell) when the mlc (multi level cell) are the newer faster ssd's....

problems i have had

-windows vista 64bit took 1hr 30mins to install
-shutdown was taking 10mins
-programs freezing
-constant stuttering of films etc

good points

-good paper weight

well i have not washed my hands of ssd just yet, i put it down to bad research and impulse buying.

i have now chosen the g.skill titan 128gig drive

spec-
- Capacity: 128GB
- Read: Up to 200MB/sec
- Write: Up to 160MB/sec
- NAND Flash: Multi-Level Cell (MLC)
- Interface: SATA-II
- Low Power Consumption
- Lightweight (77g)
- Shock Resistant
- Warranty: 2 Years

fingers crossed overclockers will take back the other drive 1st then i will be ordering thi titan almost straight away

Ofcourse you didn't buy a mlc SSD, that would have burned a whole through your wallet, it should have been obvious with the price. Also, have you tweaked vista yet? There are many fixes that will lighten the stutter issue caused by crappy controllers. Basically there's no good out-of-the-box SSD performance wise, unless you're talking about the insanely expensive mlc ones or Intel SSDs.

That's a shame, man. Can you not send it back? Drop it and say it was damaged, lol.

i will be tempted, i phone them today and they said they would email me but they havnt...

at the end of the day i have updated vista for the past 2 days and still no better-simply put "it cant be used as a boot drive"

How is it for storage, any good?

no its crap, write speed is slower than my maxtor sata drive, honestly i dont know how crucial put there name to it-its really that bad.

i heard the samsung ssd drives are supposed to be really good, not as good as the intels but not for off.
