CS:S lag

first off it is not my hardware and i have cable internet.

i will lag and freeze then the screen flashes what i bought. this happens when i get over 10,000 in's on the net_graph 3. i will get any where from 20 to 60 losses. why would this be happening? im on a normal router. this doesnt happend all the time so it is hard to just connect to the modem and other ppl like to use the internet when im on CS:S

That just limits the max frmaes to 100... the issue your talking about could be related to the server your connecting to. Is it always the same server which gets the same lag?

If it happens on all servers, it could be another problem with your pc, or your isp.

it happens on different servers and when i ask ppl about it they say they dont have the problem. my non gaming up/down speeds are fine. ISP??

Most likely it is your ISP. Since packets go every which way on the internet, routing is a key factor in gaming lag, next to ping times and bandwidth. You can have one hop that is at 60 ms and the next one be at 230 ms and so forth until you reach the server. If you have the servers IP addy, you can try running tracert and see where the problem hop is. If it’s on different servers, then the problem is probably within your ISPs routing.

i think it is the ISP

so what do i do? call them and say i get lag when i play CS:S and it's your fault not mine. go fix it.

lol, I would. They probably will not listen and come up with some random bull on what the problem is but threaten them that you'll leave for their biggest rivaling ISP in the area :D.

one of my friends told them he was going to switch to DSL and the cut the price on his interent in half for 3 months.

the next time it happens i'll give them a call

My brothers PC picked up some sh*t on internet and the computer was sending spams 24/7, lol, when I played CS:S on my rig my ping automaticly went to 500 ms even if my brothers computer was just sitting, after we got rid of that virus/spyware/etc., ping was normal again.

Limewire brought my ping from 15 to 90.

Ping also depends on server location.

The ping was going from Seattle to San Jose. Should be no problems, as I ping Canada, Texas and Chicago with no problems(im from San Jose). Doesnt seem to be a distance thing.

i'm on a wiered router and when this happens ususaly the other computers are off. eveen if they are on they are only using the internet. my ping doesnt jump when i get lag. i am alwasy under 50 but i still get the problems.
