I currently run a Pentium 4 630 HT on an Asus P5KPL-AM MoBo and I'm looking to upgrade to a dual core cpu. I'm wondering wich is the better choice for audio/video/photo processing, a Pentium D or a C2D? Is there a noticeable speed difference between those 2 lines of cpu's? (never had an Intel before).

The Core two duo's are Much faster than pentium D's.
If you can afford it, get a Core 2 quad (the Q8300 is very cheap ATM)

A core 2 quad is out of my price range. The core2 duo e7500 looks very nice @ 112 euro's.

Overpriced, you'd be better off getting a pentium E6***, they're essentially a C2D with less cache. Overclock that, and spend the extra Money on a better GPU or something. That's just my opinion, it's your choice of course.

EDIT

The Core 2 quad Q8300 is £100 here, that's about 120 euros

+1

get something like a E6420, E6600 or even a E6850 ... they are good chips and still get alot of love :good:

I agree with Sentimental. The processors he recommended are good. The Intel Pentium E5300, E6300, or the E6500 are also good processors.

If you want to look at AMD look at the Phenom II 550 Callisto Dual-Core Processor.
