Custom Built Computer, please help

Hi,

After making a previous thread about buying a pre-assembled computer then upgrading the GPU and PSU, fellow forum mates have convinced me to custom build one instead.

I pieced together the following hardware, please have a look over them and see if it'll work out.

COOLER MASTER Elite 310 (ATX/mATX)
BIOSTAR TA790GXB3 SKT AM3 AMD 790GX ATX (with PCI-e2.0)
ANTEC Basiq 550w PSU
AMD Athlon II X4 635 2.9Ghz
Biostar Radeon HD 5770 1GB 256-bit DDR5 PCI-e2.1
Seagate 3.5" 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Sata II
LG 24X DVD Writer
OCZ DDR3 PC3-12800 Gold 4GB Dual Channel Kit

Also, all of it + a set of microsoft wireless keyboard/mouse and a Wireless N 150Mbps WPA2 wireless PCI adapter + tax came to $805 Canadian. It's reasonably priced right?

Any input is appreciated, thanks!

If Your Thinking About Upgrading In The Future Buy A 1000Watt Power Supply. It Saves More Money In The Long Run, And You Don't Have To Replace Your Powersupply When You (If You) Add More GPU's

Look OK to me.
How much is BIOSTAR TA790GXB3?
Those with AMD770 usually be cheaper. Or you should consider amd 870 chipset.

Have you got OS?

@daisymtc

The BIOSTAR TA790GXB3 was 72.77 + tax (after a $17 instant rebate)
And my University gives us fresh copies of Win7 Professional every year.

Well I did think about getting a more powerful PSU and everything, but I am working under a budget, I'm just very pleased I was able to keep it at almost $800 flat after tax... But if I do decide to get a new PSU later on, I'll make sure to get a higher wattage one to prepare for further upgrades.

Thanks for the input guys, I'm just worried about whether I missed anything important X_x I've only worked with barebones, never from scratch before.

you DO NOT need a 1000 watt psu for a 5770 or any number of them you add down the road. get a 750 watt one and by the time you even come close to needing the whole thing the psu will need replacing anyways.

looks like a pretty good budget build :good:

Hi, I noticed that in your setup you have the 8800GT dedicated for Physx. Is that something you would recommend? Cause I understand ATI doesn't have hardware support for Physx just yet, only software emulation....

to be honest there really aren't that many games that utilize it right now. if you can find a good card for cheap then i'd say it is worth it for the games that use it. but other than helping th cpu for the games that use it, it doesn't do much.

Stay away from the antec Basiq line of power supplies, they are built by FSP...and have pretty poor ripple suppression. If you want a unit in that area go for an antec Neo Eco 520W.

OCZ has pretty terrible DDR3 memory, pretty much any manufacturer other than OCZ, Patriot, and Wintec are gonna be fine though.

Post newegg links to everything you are looking at, many of those parts have multiple products that it could be, such as the "seagate 1TB drive". What sort of budget are you trying to build within.
