Custom Built PC?

I am trying to build my first gaming PC and am having trouble in timing. While deciding between the 8800 GTS or 8800 Ultra, I noticed the 9800 theoretically coming out in Feb. would it be worthwhile to wait until then or will an Asus P5N-T MOBO handle the 9800 in SLI config?
If you were going to build a perfect gaming desktop, what would you aim for? I am trying to aim for a cap of 8,000$

do you understand everything that you will have to buy to come close to 8 grand nowadays? im talking 2 of everything, dual monitors, 8gb of ram, multiple tb's of hdd if you really want to try and spend that good luck, i mean i guess if you buy the "best" intel processor, theres 1000, vid card is 1000, mobo 300, hdd 300, ram 200 for ddr2, a couple gaming monitors, hell just get a 50" plasma, god i dont think i could come up with a list to spend 8k

Don't you think football duke 8 gb of ram is lil more.../??? i mean for a gaming computer you need 2 g b thats more then enough...

2GB of RAM is not more then enough, by todays standards it's actually the norm, and is actually considered a bit on the low side if your gaming under Vista. 4GB is pretty much recommended now for a gaming PC.

No, I simply meant that 8k is my max budget. Just what type of system would you build with that budget to create a perfect gaming system?

yea and i was thinking about getting everything possible, the guys budget is 8 grand, to me if its overkill but still in the budget by far so he should be ok with it

Oh gotcha, it looked like the poster above me was talking about 8GB and 2GB.

Personally you can get one of the best gaming systems out there for about $3,500, if you want to spend more then that then you are just wasting your money.

ok well with 8k, i would wait until the new vid cards and processors come out in the next month or two, heres what i would get,

case- antec 900
cpu- quad core 45nm
hdd- biggest raptor along with either a 500gb or 1 tb western digital
vid card- the 9800 ultra when it comes out
ram- 8gb
psu- ocz 750
mobo- one that comes out when the new processors come out, as for a brand i would go with gigabyte

I really hate this arguement, and like previous posters have said, I disagree. 2gigs is by no means overkill. Vista alone has a ram recommendation of 2gigs and if you are running any intense games then 4gigs is good to have. People that do video imaging and drafting or solidworks style programs can use as much as 8 gigabytes of RAM. And plus, what the cost of an additional 2gbs DDR2 1066/800 ram, $50, maybe almost $100 for DDR2 1066. come on, stop the ram overkill agruement.

You may want a bigger PSU than the suggested 750w for a high budget machine. I would recommend closer to a 1000w unit(Antec or OCZ), certainly a new 45nm quad, maybe even two new 9000 series nVidia cards(If not then two 8800 Ultras), a nice mobo and like a TB size HDD. With big budget get a nice big monitor to go along with it. Hope this helps.

I suggest Gigabyte, MSI, EVGA, and Intel boards and if you want to run SLI you will need nVidia chipset. The new 780i will do fine.
