Ok this is what happends i start up Nancy (comps name) the screen just stays blank the monitor is a nec the letters go green right away but then it changes to yellow into sleep mode. i think thats what it means. it stays at a dark black screen i have know idea what this means. any suggestions questions just ask or answer thanks for the help.

had the same problem when i built my computer. need to know which motherboard u have, which video card you are using and i can help you. You can also try (if nothing is installed on the computer yet) removing the battery from the motherboard to reset the bios. This could get the computer to recognize the monitor throught the video card u are using right now. otherwise, write back the info i need to help you.

You named your computer NANCY?? For what? Non-Alcoholic Naughty Cute Yolk? Reset bios why 1) taking off battery and putting it back in 2) changing jumpers 3) if present, press the reset bios button on the mobo

When you start up "Nancy," was there a beep sound indicating that the computer was booting up?

Check the PSU.
Video is one of the first things to go when you dont have enough power. It could also be a bad video card or bad slot.

There are tons of things that can create that problem. A bad video card is your first suspect. If your motherboard has on-board video, try to see if that works, if you don't try to get someone else's video card to test in yours or test yours in someone elses. Next try reseating your RAM, this problem is rarely caused by RAM but just try it for the sake of saying you did. Next make sure your Heatsink is firmly on your CPU. Then check to see if you have any burnt or leaky transistors or other circuits. If you think your entire PC is okay then your problem is the CPU. If the CPU screws up, it will do that. I had a bad CPU on my PC and much needed a CPU upgrade (XP 1600 to 2800) cleared the problem right up. Hope this helps. :D
