I've just got the last parts for my new pc. I've put it all together, plugged it all in, and its not working :(

Everything spins up like it should, but the HDD makes a noise I've not heard before... the monitor show absolutely nothing...

I've tried it with and without the graphics card, swapped the sata ports and everything else I can think of... I've tried two monitors, and I've run out of ideas!

Please help me :(

Thanks,
Harry...

What power supply are you running?

Make sure all your power connectors are in. You should have:

1x20/24 pin cable to your motherboard
1x4/8 pin cable to your motherboard
1 SATA or Molexcable to each hard drive
1 Molex cable to each optical drive
Applicable PCIe cables to each video card

OK, I didn't have both motherboard cables in, but I do now, and I'm getting the same problem...

Its an OCZ 500W silent Xtream supply...

If my RAM was incompatible, what would I see?

Also, what should be plugged into my bluray drive, and where should it go?

Thanks,
Harry

If it is the system in your sig, the power supply will be fine for it.

If RAM is incompatible your system wouldn't boot. What motherboard do you have and what memory do you have?

You should have 1 power cable, it will be either molex (4 circular pins) or SATA (flat and thin), and 1 SATA cable going to your motherboard from your bluray drive

Check RAM

Make sure your ram is installed properly (both locks should click when you push the ram stick in).

The RAM was definitely in... I'll try it with the hard drive disconnected, but the noise stopped after maybe 20 seconds?

It sounded like a low buzz, wasn't constant, kind of buzzed for a few seconds then sounded normal for a few seconds...

Thanks,
Harry

OK tried it without the HDD and got exactly the same result...

Does this mean its the RAM for definite, or could it be something else?

Thanks,
Harry

Do you have the motherboard Speaker(beeper) plugged in

if yes then the motherboard will give a continous beep if the memory is not correct.

its probably your motherboard since nothing is posting

I would agree with this, or it being the CPU. If you have another motherboard of the same socket type as your processor, put the CPU in that board, or if you have another CPU of the same socket, put it in your current motherboard and try

:( I dislike this news, I have no other processors, or motherboards. And a new one will be expensive. Is there a way to rule out RAM? And are ebuyer likely to be understanding, seeing as I purchased the parts a few weeks ago. Will they replace?

Ok, I'm sure its the processor, the motherboard has lights, and beeps with no RAM and powers up fans and stuff...

I tried the processor once with no heat sync, same results, processor did warm up, I only ran the system for 30 seconds, but it got quite warm to touch.

One thing to note is that to remove the processor, I lift the lever at the side of the socket. The lever lifts two thirds of the way with ease, but I have to push firmly to lift it the last bit and unlock the processor, and it clicks....

Thanks,
Harry
