HI i've recently become interested in building my own desktop pc, i need some help choosing graphics cards and motherboards, my budget is £300-£800 or $600-$1600 if your in america

thanks

It would help if you told us exactly what u need: keyboard, mouse, monitor, o/s ?

Also, what exactly do you intend and expect it to do ? School work, hardcore gaming, mild gaming, etc. ?

wireless keyboard & mouse
Windows vista home premium
used for word proccesing and internet

If your requirements are that basic and little to no gaming will be done on the machine, I'd recommend getting system similar to this one:

CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 - $225USD
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 - $130USD
Video card: Nvidia 8500GT or 7600GT - both cost ~$100USD
Ram - 2GB 667MHZ Corsair value select - $60USD
Any wireless keyboard&mouse combo -$30
Any case with inbuilt 430+W power supply - $50

Total is ~$600USD or 300 pounds which is right up your alley.
Good luck

Thats a good setup, but a bit more then he needs.

An E4300 would be fine, and he can get the 945P motherboard for around $80. He also doesnt need a video card that high-end, a simple 7300 or x300 will be more then enough for Vista. But you're forgetting the hard drive, so add $70 for that.

If your only doing word processing and Internet i would suggest to get vista home and not ultimate or for a faster computer just xp. Because vista isn't to big a upgrade from xp except for a few bugs and compatibility problems.

He specifically mentioned that his budget is "£300-£800" and if he can get the system I mentioned above for £300, I don't see the reason why he SHOULD settle for anything slower, and yes, I for some reason completely forgot about HDD and DVD writer which comes to £50 more.

by the end of this year if i can afford anything a little higher spec i will most probably get a E6400 because ill be getting some games soon. like FSX or RFACTOR
