Cyber Monday, Planning Ahead $1500

Now I know it's still a long way off but I like to be prepared and considering the fact that my laptop's video card recently fried I kind of have to be getting a new computer soon. So this is why I have come to you fine people. I am planning to have $1500 to spend on a desktop when cyber monday rolls around and I was wondering if you guys could give me suggestions on what parts to buy since I plan on building the computer myself. The kicker is that I will be buying the parts on cyber monday so it seems reasonable to assume that my $1500 budget for that day is more like $2000 in present prices. So what would you get for $2000 today if you wanted a great gaming PC? I'd also like to include a monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc.

PS: Has anyone in Canada had experience buying online from U.S. stores on cyber monday or would you buy from Canadian stores that might also be giving discounts? I live in Montreal and I got screwed on customs taxes when I ordered my laptop so I don't wanna have that happen again. Any advice would be welcome.

Excellent build linkin, though for gaming a P55 Mobo (GA-P55M-UD2) and an i5-750 would be around the same level of performance, or even quicker maybe. Plus it would be much cheaper, too, and then he could use the extra cash on other things (windows, pocket it, HD5870, whatever) IMO, Crosshair IV is best AM3 board, but overpriced. Other than that, I like your choice of components. BTW, you forgot RAM.

KB and Mouse are personal preference, personally I wouldn't spend that much on gaming peripherals, though it's his choice

The RAM kit i posted had CAS8 timings, the less expensive ones are CAS9 and the most expensive ones are CAS7 i think.
 
I have no experience with Solid State Drives, are they really worth buying now or would it be better to go with a HDD for the present and wait for SSD technology to advance and GB capacity on SSD's to increase in conjunction?
 
Also, $250 is all I should spend on a GPU? Last time I bought a rig my graphics card was a huge money sink...what's changed?
 
Solid state drives make excellent drives to keep your OS and basic programs like messengers/web browsers on, as they have <0.1ms seek times, and insane read and write speeds, over 200MB/s. They are worth the money.

Ideally, you want a different drive to store the majority of your data on. Or another SSD :)

A Single GTX 460 (768mb/1gb irrelevant) can handle 1080p gaming no problem. the 1Gb models will handle higher levels of AA without slowing down. GTX 460 SLI is faster than a single GTX 480.

Funny, I just got back from mailing a form to get my $70 back from Canadian customs. That's the last time I try to take my Rig to Toronto for some weekend SC2. They charged me duty and and gave me a receipt for the tax that I could get stamped if I took my rig back to Ohio with me, which, of course, I did.
