Cyborg V5 vs Sidewinder X4 or something else?

Hey all,

Birthday is just round the corner and I was thinking of maybe getting myself a new keyboard. I don't really need anything too fancy, so I'm not really willing to spend over around £40. I just need something which is decent enough to type on and looks good. :P

I've currently got a Trust eLED or something like that from a couple of years ago. It's still a good keyboard but it's getting a bit grotty and some of the letters on the keys are really wearing away. It's got a blue backlight which I really like, so I'd like a keyboard which lights up. I was thinking of going for the Cyborg V5 or the Sidewinder X4 - which is best? I know a lot of people on here like the X4.

Thanks.

Don't know anything about the Cyborg but I just got the Sidewinder a few days ago. The music navigation buttons are really nice and work with iTunes even when it's not your currently selected window. The keys are shorter than I expected but it helps because I don't have to press as far to get the keys to register. I feel like my typing speed is about 5-10wpm faster. The LED is a nice red, but not incredibly bright. The wrist rest is a nice touch and overall the whole thing looks very sleek and angled without looking gaudy or over the top.

It's a great keyboard.

Cheers guys, I think I might go with the Sidewinder then should I upgrade.

I think the Cyborg V5 is terribly gaudy, and the X4 seems like a good KB, so go with that out of the two. I was looking into the X4, it really does seem like a nice keyboard while the Cyborg just seems okay. Though, are you open to suggestions? This one is mech: http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/peripherals/keyboards/gaming/zm-k500.html
Yes, I am open to suggestions. That seems like a nice keyboard but it doesn't have a backlight. I'd really like a backlight if possible.

N00b question: what is the difference between a regular keyboard and a mechanical one? I keep hearing everybody going on about mechanical keyboards and how great they are, but what do they actually offer?

As you can tell, I don't know a lot about keyboards haha.

Pretty comprehensive guides, thanks for those. Had a look at Linus' video on YouTube (NCIX Tech Tips) and I learned a bit about them from him too. :)

I shall have a think about what to go for should I replace my existing keyboard. I am also looking at the Cyborg V7 but I dunno, might probably end up getting the X4 like you lot did. :P

I had the x4 before I went to a mechanical keyboard. I really enjoyed it but if you are thinking about getting into mechanical switches I would look for cheaper end mechanical solutions. It would still be cheaper than buying the x4 as a bridge to a mechanical setup.

With that being said, the x4 is a very good keyboard for the price and I do no hesitate to recommend it. I played a bit over a years worth of sc2 on it and it still feels like new.

Not really looking for anything too snazzy and not really looking for a mechanical keyboard though if I could afford one I'd probably get one.

I don't do a lot of gaming, I'm just looking for something that looks good and is comfortable to use.

Yeah I would probobly do that. Cyborg V7 looks nice but probobly isn't much better than the X4, and it's over budget. YOU NEED MORE GAMES. Sorry I could not resist, you are buying a new keyboard but have 3 PC games lol

I'm looking at buying a new keyboard because the keys on my existing one are wearing away (paint peeling off the keys) and it's getting a bit grotty.

I'll see how money is. I'm trying to decide between a new keyboard or maybe instead live with what I've got and put the money towards another lens for my camera. Though if I do replace my keyboard, I'll get the X4. :)

IK, I am not one of the idiots who never reads the OP ;) I am saying you should spend less (not get the Cyborg V7) and get a X4 and some games :)

Maybe. I'll probably get the X4 and put the saved money towards that lens, not games though. ;)

Wow, they should advertise it with a sticker that has the "ComputerForum.com Seal of Approval". No idea so many people here used it.
