D: drive - 'choose the program to use to open...'

I have just re-installed windows and fore some reason when I try to open (double click) my D: it asks me to choose a program to open it with. When I right click on it the default (i.e. first list option) is Auto rather than open. Anyone know any reason for this and maybe any remedies?

D: is obviously your optical drive. You will have to disable the Autorun feature in order to stop that behaviour. Otherwise, right click on the drive letter and select "explore".

can anyone tell me how to turn autoplay off? also, although windows may think that it is an optical drive, it is actually my second hard drive! any reason for this?

Is it a serial ATA drive? If so, that would explain it.

yes, it's a SATA, is there any way of getting rid of the autplay?

If you have XP Pro you can use the Group Policy Editor to do the same thing.

Just right click on the drive in My Computer- Properites-Pick the AutoPlay tab- Click the Select a action to perform- Pick Take no Action.

it is my hard drive and so doesn't come up with any autoplay settings - that is the problem
