D is not a Valid win 32 app

After trying to install 2 different dvd-rom games (BF2 and Oblivion, and i'm SURE BF2 works, bcause its my friends...) I just cant seem to get the games to work. I've installed other cdrom games, which work fine, i've tried reg dvd's which also work fine, so I've come to one conclusion, IT MUST BE MY OS (Windows XP SP2 Home edition). Has anyone encountered this before? It says "D is not a valid win32 app" or something to that extent. Is there something I'm not doing right? I've even tried another dvd-rom drive I have, still with no luck, so it cant be the drives. What am I doing wrong?
 
Try this:
1. Insert the Windows CD into the CD drive or DVD drive.
2. Click Start, and then click Run.
3. In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK.
4. At the command prompt, type the following commands, pressing ENTER after each command:

expand CD-ROM Drive Letter:\i386\config.nt_ c:\windows\system32\config.nt
expand CD-ROM Drive Letter:\i386\autoexec.nt_ c:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt
expand CD-ROM Drive Letter:\i386\command.co_ c:\windows\system32\command.com
exit

i seem to see this problem over and over again these days, its getting more and more common, i think MS needs to sort that one out...

Ok, so i inserted the windows os disk, and brought up the cmd prompt, but when i enter expand CD-ROM Drive Letter:\i386\config.nt_ c:\windows\system32\config.nt it says something like "\i386\config.nt_ c:\windows\system32\config.nt is not a valid drive" Once again, im sure my drive is plugged in properly, because i installed hl2 fine...
 
The other thing I can think of to try is virus/spyware scan. You are sure you got the right cd drive letter right?
 
positive, and i did virus/spyware, and nothing came up, ill try the thing again tho...

EDIT: Ok, let me do this step by step. I typed: expand CD-ROM Drive D:\i386\config.nt_ c:\windows\system32\config.nt (D is my drive) Then it says "Destination is not a directory: D:\i386\config.nt_c:\windows\system32\config.nt."

I'm really not good w/ the windows os, i dont know what the really means.

I must be typing in something wrong in the cmd prompt, does anyone know? I dont mean to be a pain and go and triple post, but my brothers been buggin me to get gd oblivion working and I cant figure it out. Ill go try the cmd prompt again i guess...

I'm not sure if you just copy/pasted and missed removing CD-ROM Drive but the exact command would be:
expand d:\i386\config.nt_ c:\windows\system32\config.nt
not expand CD-ROM Drive D:\i386\config.nt_ c:\windows\system32\config.nt
 
hmm it still says this: No Destination specifird for d:\i386\config.nt_c:\windows\system32\config.nt. I made sure I typed everything correctly, and i also made sure I put in the windows xp disc. Oh, and the drive IS D, I made sure of that too. this all happens when i type expand d:\i386\config.nt_c:\windows\system32\config.nt

Also, i would like to say thx for the help so far, and that im sry im being such a pain, but i really want to get this working! I've never encountered this problem b4.

Edit: as of now, still no luck, hmm.... i really cant think of what im doing wrong w/ the cmd prompt.....

Most of the problem (ie my slow response time) is I'm not home all that often.

You are putting a space between the _ and the c:\ right?
