D-Link wireless utility problem

I've got a D-Link AirPlus-G DWL-G510 Wireless PCI Adapter. I am using Windows XP Pro with SP2 and all the other updates.

The problem I have is that when I try and run the D-Link wireless utility I do not get an icon in the system tray which in turn means I have no access to the program. Windows Task manager confirms that AirGCFG.exe is running.

I've tried stopping the Wireless Zero Configuration service but it makes no difference. I've also compared the automatic/manual/disabled services with another pc running the same OS where the D-Link utility is working but they're the same.

Any ideas?

I'm not actually using wireless yet. I've installed the card in advance because we're moving house in the next few weeks and will have to go wireless. I'm just trying to make sure I am actually able to connect when the time comes and not having used wireless before wasn't sure whether the windows system offered the same features as the D-Link utility.

I'd agree with not using any d-link software, I never find any of it works. Just get windows to add the hardware, tell it to get the drivers off the cd, and then use the windows wireless utility.

I wouldn't ever recommend these wireless cards or usb sticks, I've had nothing but trouble with them - if you can get wired in your new place just do it.

I chose these cards for us because of their recent reviews which were all very positive. I am currently picking up 3 wireless networks which are obviously our neighbours so hopefully the cards will be ok.
