my dad is planning on buying his first computer soon. i know a tiny bit about computers, like how to set them, whats good or bad on a computer and just general things that everyone knows. we went to PC World the other day to look at some computers. he was interested in this one because it was one of the cheapest which is all he is really interested in lol:

i told him he might want the upgrade of that one. i cant find it on their website but it has twice the ram and hard drive space, and has a much better processor and its own dedicated graphics card with 1gb ram with it. its £480, which is £100 more than the other one but i think he would be better off with it because it would last longer and would be much more effective and fast. i asked a friend at school and he said that it would probably last 5 more years. can you please give me your opinions on if you think it is worth it so i can have some more evidence to give my dad? thanks very much.

Well, you can definitely build a much better computer by yourself, it's over-priced, but it'll perform fine depending on what you're using it for.

well as i said im not really that good at computers so cant really build one, and my dad isnt looking for the most expensive computer, just somin that will work, but i just think he might as well fork that extra £100 for twice the ram, hard drive and better processor and graphics card. and hes only using it for basic stuff like microsoft office programs and internet

i dont really know where the deals are in england, is your dad just using this for everyday computer stuff, IM and porn?

lol yeah pretty much probz, except i doubt the IM. probz just internet browsing and stuff. me and my sis will be using it to play games and stuff as well. i think £480 is pretty good for 4gb ram, 640 gb HDD, not sure what processor it is coz i 4got but its a good one, and a really good graphics card.

the link im looking at has two gigs or ram and intergrated graphics, did you send the right link?

ooo sorry i misunderstood, if you can find out the Graphics card and processor I can let you know

Processor brand---Intel
Processor model---Pentium Dual-Core
Processor Number---E5300
Processor clock speed---2.6GHz
Processor cache---2MB
Graphics card brand---Intel
Graphics card model---GMA X4500HD

Is that what you're looking for? :P

I would personally keep looking, cause converting that to us bucks that 636, i know the us dollar is down, so you can prob get stuff cheaper here, but i would keep searching around.

insert condescending remark
*ewww... integrated graphics? + games? what flash? or sims? or... oh god... 8 bit?*

but i agree, you can get alot more than that, any photo editing or video editing? importing video? importing music burning cds? can you please give us some deets :D

Try to stay away from Compaq (Com-Crash). I would learn how to build. Learning to build a computer will reward you in the long run even to the ones that know little. Knowing little is better than not knowing at all IMO.
