Dail up getting slower??

I am sure 56K dial up is getting slower it reminds me in the days when I only had a 20 Meg of RAM, then I got 150 meg, my hard drive went silent and web site opened FAST!! But when I click onto a link now it takes ages to do nothing.

I blame it on the increase on broadband, and "they" are downloading movies - games - software and the like, soaking up all the Internet bandwidth.

Do you have, have you had dial up for the past few years? if so what do you think of the Internet speed over that time, are you finding web sites are taking longer to open?

I have been having the same problem with broadband. yes there is alot more trafic, we ran out of ip addresses if that says anything. They are moving to a new system in the next few years. I forgot the details...

Ha, i used to have dialup, and yes i noticed that everything got slower as years passed. Websites are alot more complex now with more things to load.

It has NOTHING to do with people "soaking up the bandwith" by downloading things, the internet does NOT work this way. Assuming you have no spyware the increase is more likly to be cuased by the pages being larger themself now a days.

more and more websites are catering to people who have broadband and not to people who have dial up, the internet these days are not dial up friendly, thats just how it is.

Why don't you join the rest of the world, and get a higher speed internet.

I think the "change" in speed has not changed, it is a mix of the things listed above (larger/more detailed pages) AND the fact that you use a brodband connection at other places, and compared to that it is a HUGE difference.

well usually you can get satellite but i think thats pretty slow and high priced so probably not worth getting

Yea, I just took a quick look on google, and it appears to be around $70 a month, and it is quite slow comparred to DSL or cable. =/

Im sure it will eventually become cheaper though. :)

If you have dial up, you are in the last and dying generation of internet. Get broadband. If you live in rural places (I am close to not having DSL), it will come to you someday soon.

OK everyone Auckland, New Zealand does have broadband,

But I like the old dial up standards, it suits what I need out of Internet,
Also I can save more money, for that rainy day when I need it.
