damage to my desktop?

there was a strange power outage in my area a little while ago. Where the power went out for 2 seconds and came back on then another 2-3 seconds, then back on, this went on for about 5 minutes. During this time my desktop computer would turn on for 2 seconds, then turn off again, then on, then off, for nearly 50 times I think. Does this damage any of the components of the desktop at all, being turned on and off rapidly?

Well 2 seconds isn't enough for your computer to spin up the HDDs so they should be fine. Your PSU would have been the most harmed by this since it is what powers your components and multiple power cycles can wear on it. If it ever happens again, just unplug your computer. Also, unless you have the option set, your comp shouldn't be powering back on after a power loss.

i agree with gamer man. look in your bios for an auto power feature and turn it off. usually you push the f1,f2, or delete key when you first turn the computer on to get into them. and unplug next time

yea another thing is you can buy a battery so you can turnit off properly next time and i agree with both of them

would the wear that it put on the psu be pretty significant? I would imagine that it would be the same thing as turning the computer on and off for let's say once a day for fifty days?

Yeah man you should unplug when you notice that the power is out you are lucky I think that it was only like 2 seconds though because you could have had a power surge problem with any more time. What I do to protect my system is unplug at the first notice of power outage power down wont hurt but power up will

what would be some of the symptoms of a psu problem before the psu actually dies? what kind of wear could it have possibly cost? it's the equivalent turning the pc on and off 50 times right?

Should not be a problem, in 2sec PC would not have time to initialize most of the components, and how many times do you think PSUs are turned on and off at the testing labs where they are produced? Should be more than you would have strenght to press power button
