Damaged hard drive?

Go into the bios and make sure that the boot order is set to boot cdrom first, then hard drive. Disable network boot(pxe). Post back if that don't fix the problem.

Sounds like you don't have windows installed and you don't have the cdrom set to first boot device.

It has been installed, and i never uninstalled it, one day 6 months ago i got a bsod, and never been able to get it to work since, this laptop never ran properly, i think i still have warranty, if it didn't take so long, i would have done it already GRH.

do i have to buy a new OS? i just bought windows 7 for my desktop, can't i use it for both? i downloaded from microsoft, not from a CD.

No you can't use it on 2 machines. Sounds like you may have a bad hard drive and possible that the cd isn't bootable.

with the cd inserted in the drive it loads files, and gets me to the empty os list again...
guess it's kaput

thanks for your time :)

Make sure the power and data cables going to the hard drive is attached properly and tight.

I have removed and inserted the harddrive, cleaned the contacts... if there's an issue with the connections it would be in the copper traces of the mother board itself...
My brother has a laptop with the same sized hard drive as mine, i think i'm going to try it on.
