Damaged USB Memory

Hello

I have a Markvision USB 2.0 512 MB Memory.

I don't use the feature of "Safely Remove Hardware" because I didn't believe it was necessary :)

Somehow, my memory doesn't work anymore. Was it because I don't use this feature? The memory hasn't been stomped on or anything like that :) I can't understand how physically, a memory can get damaged for not using the "Safely Remove Hardware" option.

The help I need is: I used a program to try to read the disk, and it recognizes some files, but most of them were damaged. Now, I need a program to "format" the memory, to see If I can use it again. Windows XP recognizes the memory, but reads it as if it has 0 MB available and 0 MB used, and when I try to copy a file to the USB memory, an error appears saying it can't copy.

What do you suggest? How can I "repair" this memory? Or is it really damaged , physically?

plug it in and go start, settings, control panels, administrative tools, computer managment, and disk management. If it shows up in there, right click on it and see what options it gives you.. If it lets you format it.. do it. ( you will loose all data on the thumb drive) Also make sure you right click the correct one...
 
Hmm, tricky. I swam in the pool for few hours with my Lexar jumpdrive, and it still works to this day. Those things are indestructable!!!!!

I believe in Windows, once you connect it, you can right click the drive and select "Format." Is it this way for you?

From a jumpdrive dealer:
"The error you are receiving is most likely due to your JumpDrive trying to launch the Secure software from the drive. In order to get rid of the error, you can do one of the following…
1. Delete the Secure software from the JumpDrive.
2. Format your JumpDrive. Please be advised that this will delete all files on your JumpDrive.
3. Delete the autorun.inf file. This will prevent the drive from trying to auto-launch the Secure Software. "

None of those approaches worked :)

Does anybody know if I can low level format this drive? Or if there is a special utility to how I can format it?

I used a special program to read files in the memory, but most are damaged. But I haven't been able to find a low level formatter.

Haha 4W4K3, I have a Lexar JumpDrive as well, It's gone through a few washes and still works like a charm.

Majagua, It may have been physically damaged in your pocket or wherever you may store it.
 
Try restarting the computer with the jump drive installed. For some reason, that trick worked on my USB camera. It certainly wouldnt hurt :cool:

Edited: You can also try a different USB port.
 
Have tried all the above.

What I really think is I need to low level format the disk, but have not found the utility do do so.
 
format it i also jumped in the pool with mine and it works fine. its becuse they have no moving parts they are resistable to shock and a bit of water. my computer wont let me start with it in
 
my flashdrives broke because the usb controller was damaged on my comp, but it eventually can damage the drive if you dont use that feature.
