Damn game lag

Im currently TRYING to play cod 2 at 640, no aa, no shadows, and super low settings, and I get no more than 20 fps in that game, and my friend has the same setup as me, or at least I have a better one. Yet he still gets an an average of between 30-40 fps.

Amd 64 3200+
1024mb PC3200 with 680mb left
160gb hd
e-Geforce 6800 8x 128mb with latest drivers (81. ?)

He also says his Raedon 9600se plays COD2 on exta 4x without any lag. Is that even possible if it was PCI-e 256mb (even though it wasn't)?

This should be on a Cod forum, but I'm sure this isn't the only time its going to happen.

Have you connected the molex connector to your graphics card, cause most 6800 series cards need that for them to function properly. And with that rig you should be able to have quite high settings and get a good fps.

what fps do yopu get when you have it set to 1280x1024, and everything on medium settings? ( except AA and AF )

I can play COD2 at 640x480, 2xAA and other settings at pretty low and the game runs smoothly. Your computer is much better so it's very strange that my comp can run COD2 better.

your talking about that 4 pin thing right? If so, then yeah, I have that in correctly (or at least the last time I checked).

When did you update your drivers? Do you have vsync off? I switched to older drivers on my last pc and it fixed the problem.

look in the driver options. maybe your vertical sync, AA and AF settings arnt set to "Aplication contolled" this could mean your card always runns full AA and AF in game.

to check this, go to the grafics card option of the driver, and select " Performance and quality settings."
can you tell me what the AA etc is set there?

4 pin.. uhh, its a 6 pin. Did you get mixed up or are you missing it.

are you sure? Cause it fits perfactly, and the card only has 4 little pins I can connect it to. Either that, or I am mistaken 4 pin for 6 pin. Other than that, its connected properly.

Also.. I changed the AA and tropic settings from Application to "off" and I havn't seen a difference.

My image settings are at "quality" if it matters at all.
Also, the only reason i switched from the 77 drivers to the newest 81 drivers was because this problem was occuring when I installed the game while still having the 77 drivers in.
My fps only changes by around 10 or 15 when I switch from super low settings to medium - high settings.

I beat quake 4 on high settings 2x AA with no problems at all. I suspect my fps was around 30 fps average in that game. So what the hell could be going on here?

the AGP cards have a 4-pin connector. ( same as the x800 and x850 series of ati's AGP cards.)
only pci-e cards use the 6 pin connector.

but, what game you had trouble with installing while using the older drivers?
because i still use the 77. driver, and have no problems at all :)

I meant that when I started the game for the first time, I still had the 77 drivers in. But then when I realized I was lagging quite a lot, I went to the nvidia site and got the newest 81 drivers. It still sucks though.

Also.. I can play this game fine on DX7 but it runs like total mega crap on DX9.
