this memory stick that belongs to one of my friends was giving him problems so i decided to test it in my computer. when i turn the computer on and it beeps at me and never even shows the bios screen does that mean the memory stick is shot then?

Yes this just happened to one of my 128Mb sd ram. When i turned on my pc it gave me a loud beeping noise and before anything shows on the monitor it restarted the computer automatically. I took off the ram sticks one by one and found out one of them was making the problem. Your friend needs to get a new ram stick.

it might be the memory stick or if putting it in your pc means there are 3 sticks in your pc it might be that some mobos only work with 2 or 4 sticks not 1 or 3

the only case of this I know of is some board only read 3 gigs if you put 4 1gig sticks in a handful of boards, and besides, it's beeping at him which is like the most telltale sign that your ram is bad ever

Well, how many beeps are there?
one beep: everything's ok
two or three beeps usually indicates a memory failure

i hope you're both following esd safety measures when you're "passing" sensitive components around.

i havea abit av8 mobo and 2 512 stick of memory in it and i went out and bought 1 more 512 stick and my pc beeped but did not start so i went and bought another 512 stick and put that in and my pc works great i then found out from abit that the mobo will acept 2 or 4 sticks but not 1 or 3 sticks
