Dare I buy it?

its to small you might lose it in the couch cushins, lol

i wouldnt get it just because its small and you can get a better normal sized laptop for just a little bit more price

and it has xp on it

Have you seen these things in real life? I did and it made me back out of buying it. i've seen the 7" version 8.9: and 10" version and i thought they were WAY too small to do anything even if it was just regular things like surfing the web or listening t music. That's just my 2 cents.

Thing is, I already got the 15" semi powerful laptop, I'm thinking one of these would be useful for ultra portability. I've used the 7" versions and I've seen the 9" Acers, and I think they're neat little bastards. I dunno, I'm sure leaning towards it :P

well if you're still leaning towards it I'd get the 120Gig HDD version of the acer aspire one. that was what i was going to get.

The second one looks alright, I'm just baffled by the low price of this one...9" with the 1.6ghz and a 160gb hdd for only 329?? Hell, I could buy a 2gb stick of ram with it and it'd still be under $350, with XP

I don't know if I'll actually buy it...we'll see :P

I have the 1000HA (white 10" version), and I love it. I tested the 8.9" but honestly it was too small for me, I thought it was worth the price difference for the extra 1.1", 6-Cell battery, and larger keyboard.

I've had my eye on these every once in awhile, they are quite neat.
I don't think I would ever buy one, but they do some like they would fit the bill for you.

I like the looks of:

I still think that for $30 for the Asus Eee PC is a better deal, you get 1GB of RAM vs 512MB, 160GB HD vs 80GB HD, 6-Cell Battery vs 3-Cell, etc.

you've tempted me to get one
Go for it! Make sure to write up a review.

I wasn't comparing price to performance. Those are just the two that I've had my eye on. I thought Speedy might want to have a look at then.

Ok, I bought the one I originally posted. After much research, that was the cheapest I could get a 9" Netbook with the Atom 1.6ghz, 1gb of ram and a large hard drive. Not to mention it's one of the most compact ones, with a nice long battery life :D

I ordered it with a 2gb stick of g-skill ram, all for about $350 shipped :D

Pictures, and review to follow :P

Wow, Newegg rocks. Ordered it at 2am on Yesterday, recieved it 11am today. Now thats what I call service :D

Installing Vista right now...it will take me a while to get first impressions and pictures up. The few minutes I did use XP though, it seemed to work pretty good. Nice and zippy, despite only having 1gb of ram still. The 2gb stick came from a different warehouse, so it's not here yet. I love the screen, much better than the 7" I played with before. I love how the body is the same size as the 7", it's so compact! I also love the look of the shiny black. More to come...

I'm typing this on the eee right now. I'm still getting used to the keyboard, some button placements are different, so it throws me off a bit. Overall the size of the keyboard works quite well for me (granted I have smaller fingers). Also, the screen is a huge upgrade from the 7", The extra resolution helps so much. So far,I've been quite impressed with the speed this thing has, it works quite well even with 1gb of ram. I haven't really installed many programs yet, but I plan to install lightroom, photoshop, and probably try out a few games :P

Looks great! If you haven't done so already, I would take a look at the Eee PC forum, they have driver hacks that let you use the hotkeys on the keyboard (like to control volume, brightness, WiFi, sleep, etc). They also have modded drivers if you ever run into issues (the issue I had was the audio not working after waking the computer from standby).
