So i have a Seagate 80GB HD and it died on me. The rep said it is either a bad file of corrupt partition file.
So, pretty much the HD is dead. All i want is my pictures off of it.
Has anyone had experienced with a Data Recovery service/business? Does anyone have a recommendations?
Prices?
Seagate wants $690!!!!!!!!!

Thanks.
Jeff

If it is just a bad file, you may be able to get your data off of it with some recovery software instead of going the extremely expensive route of data recovery services. Will the drive spin up properly or even mount?

But, if you wish, give these guys a shot: http://www.harddriverecovery.org/

They can get you a free quote as well. I won't be cheap.

Ok thanks! I called and talked to Louis. They seem helpful. I might send my HD in to at least find out what is wrong with it. I also need to know of a free recovery program that i can try before i send it in. I need to know how to use it. I need one that i can burn to a CD and boot since my computer will not boot with that HD connected. I downloaded TestDisk but have no clue how to use it or burn it as an ISO to a disk.

TestDisk works pretty well. As for burning its LiveCD to disk, do you have a burner and any burning software?

I use Data Recovery II, that runs on both the PC and Mac platforms. It isn't free either, but I have used it many times to recover data.
