Well, to cut to the chase, the stupid technician formatted my D drive which had my vital documents and pictures in. Although i insisted not to format that drive in particular, well, what can you say! :mad:
Anyways, i've tried several softwares to recover my data but they all gave me the same result; recovering data to a certain date. In other words, files, pictures, music, movies etc made in this year aren't recovered. It's like there's some partition that prevents the program to recover new files.
Well, it's just my interpretation.
So is there anyway that i can recover all my files? or is there a problem that prevents it from doing it's full job that i'm not aware of?
Please help :(
 
If he did a low level format then it's all long gone. Why did he format? To reinstall an OS? Or did he just format the drive? If he reinstalled an OS then there's a chance it's recoverable. If he just reformatted the drive, it was probably a low-level format and the data is gone.
 
Its an issue with many people though. Don't wipe without a backup. If you didnt give permission then they shouldnt do it. Of course they did with a member of my family and did the same thing. I suggest create a backup directory and everything you want backed up goes in there. burn with dvd later. a second internal works fine and also a external hd off the usb port.

The low level wipe gets rid of all traces of any kind of installation. this is the way for a new clean install. Ive tried just a format before then a new installation but traces of the issues i had was still there. theres been times when using just format to reinstall wouldnt even install because it said another installation was already present. i just do low level for a brand new installation and be done with it. but then again i always backup 1st.
 
People get confused with low level formatting and zero writing. Low level formatting is the process of writing of the tracks to the platters. If the drive is even somewhat new chances are only the factory can run a LLF on it.

Chances are the locations that help the files you are looking for got written over with the reinstalling of everything after the format was complete.

I don't know excatly what kind of format he did. I formated my OS. XP crashed on me which didn't leave me time to back up my data therefore i formated it to Vista.

I didn't have the chance to back up any data, my OS crashed with a blue screen only :(
So, is there anyways i can recover it back?

There's not a lot you can do unless you want to find a data recovery lab, they may be able to get some of the overwritten files back. That will get expensive though.
