Data restoration company's?

I dropped my external hard drive a while ago and have pretty much given up on the idea of me being able to get the stuff saved on there off myself.
does anybody know of any reliable places that can do it for me?? :confused:

It will to cost a lot of money, possibly several thousand dollars if you take it to a data recovery company.

What symptoms does it have now? Perhaps we can help.
 
Ive stripped the casing off, and tried a different IDE cable to connect it to my laptop but i get the same result.
i plug it in the drive makes a wurring sound to try and start up and after three attempts it gives up and switches off.
any ideas?
 
Depending on the problem data restoration can be, as stated above, a couple thousand dollars. When I had a problem with my drive and I thought it needed to be sent to a data recovery company, I found companies by going to the website of the manufacturer of my drive (Western Digital) and there were several companies there that are partnered with WD and offer discounts. Many companies also offer the option to send them the drive and have them perform a free diagnostic...they won't perform any work without your permission.
 
Just a thought, but as its the (i don't know the technical names) arm with the needle that isnt reading the discs right (or so it seems) has anybody tried swapping the discs from a hard drive to another one, and if its the same sort of set up and make this could work right?

You have to have a clean room for that.
