I've seen lots of references to this as though its something amazing.... what will it actually do? I have a router that supports it (WRT54GL), but is it really worth installing?

YES! install it! (if you want to make your router worth more)

Dd-wrt is a linux based firmware for routers, It lets you do so much more then what the normal firmware does.

I cant possibly know where to start as what it gives you. I would give it a try, just follow the instructions.

Completely worth it. My router used to be pretty faulty and not work, which left me with a very angry dad (He couldnt download his movies, boohoo... lol) and it would take a long time to get it to detect the modem.

I switched to DD-WRT and I havent had that problem.

Holy cow there is a lot you can customize with this! Now just to find a guide to help configure everything, or decide WHAT I want to do with ti :D

sweet wrt54g, i think i might have to check it out as well!

I did it on a router and turned it into a wireless adapter so my brother would get his 360 out of the family room.

And when he's not using it, I use it to get on the internet :D
I'm gonna have to do one for myself because my D-Link USB adapter sucks.

Wait, I can use it as a wireless receiver? :O Would it be more powerful than the built in receiver in my laptop? If so Im buying me another WRT54G!

They have them on ebay still, go for around $30-$40. If it would increase my wifi signal that would not be half bad!

Love it as well, I use it to make a bridge with another router. Be careful though, I initially used it to boos my wifi signal and fried two routers over time. Wasn't sure on the first one, but verified on the second one there is a limit as to how far you can extend it, haha. Little routers can only handle so much.

Wow! This is awesome. I just barely did the update as well. I'm going to use the internet while I still have it though, because I've been on and off of it all morning. I've been tinkering too much. :)
